One thing I love about Pittsburgh is that it’s a very neighborhood-focused city. Each neighborhood has its own personality, peculiarities, and loyal residents. Ever since we moved here 2 years ago, I have been saying that I wanted to try to walk/photograph many of the neighborhoods, but I didn’t start until… well… two days ago!
Late is better than never, right? So, Brad and I took off Monday night to photograph the south side slopes.
Pittsburgh’s southside slopes neighborhood is nestled in a steep hill just south of the Monongahela river. I LOVE this neighborhood because every home is so unique, and every street holds surprise views of downtown! My favorite part of the slopes is that staircases are actually labeled as streets (as I tried to capture in a few photos)! Imagine how confusing this is for two newbies who are aimlessly walking with a map, making our way to the top of the hill!
Here’s what the beginning of our walk sounded like:
Me: “Okay, now turn on St. Thomas Street”
Brad: “hmm… I don’t see any streets intersecting here.”
Me: “that’s weird. It’s supposed to be right here according to the map.”
Brad: “well, there’s a staircase… oh. It’s labeled St. Thomas Street”
Me: “strange… well let’s climb and see where we end up!”
But, after awhile we got used to the unique streets and staircases, and we really enjoyed visiting a new area of our city. Here are a few photos of this beautiful neighborhood. Enjoy!
